Creative ads for Warner Music client. Warner Music year. 2020
To promote new artist releases, Warner Music created a series of in-app Spotify ads designed to speak directly to digital-native audiences through visual nostalgia.
▪️ the process
The Idea
The campaign reinterpreted retro digital culture as a contemporary visual language.
Inspired by vaporwave aesthetics, Windows 95 interfaces, and early internet visuals, the layouts transformed nostalgia into a bold, scroll-stopping system tailored for the Spotify environment.
Role & Execution
Creative direction was led jointly by VEUM and myself.
As Motion Designer and Art Director, I developed the layouts and motion language, translating the vaporwave references into clear, platform-native visuals. The work balanced retro cues with modern rhythm, ensuring legibility, impact, and alignment with Spotify’s in-app formats.
Animation was executed in Adobe After Effects, with visual assets developed and refined in Illustrator and Photoshop, adapting the system across multiple artist releases.
Outcome
The result was a cohesive set of in-app ads that promoted Warner Music’s artist launches while connecting with users through familiar digital references, blending nostalgia and contemporary music culture in a way that felt native to the platform.
